2011: The year of the phoenix

Since it’s the last day of the year, I thought I’d sit down and take a look at 2011.  What an incredible rollercoaster of a year!  On the personal front, I had a job loss, foreclosure, car repossession, and relapse into depression.  Yeah, rough year on that front, but I still have my beautiful hubby and animals – which I learned were the most important parts of my life.  I lost a great deal of hope in myself and my goals BUT I found peace through writing, forging a new path, and reshaping my life.

When I look back, I see the bad, but I also see all that darkness had to occur in order for me to finally start down the path to the dream I’ve had since I was knee-high: to become a writer.  Rather than view 2011 as a year I’d rather forget, I view 2011 as the year that gave me the strength and foundation to follow my dreams.  2011 is my year of the phoenix – and rebirth.

In retrospect, all I can say is … HOLY SMOKES!  LOOK WHAT WE BUILT, FELLOW CITIZENS OF LIZZYLAND!  I started 1 Jan 2011 with the release of Damian’s Oracle.  Here are a few stats:

  •  I wrote and released ten books and four short stories.
  •  Started three series: Rhyn, War of Gods/Damian, and The Foretold
  •  Sold around (paid sales) 30,000 books.
  •  I had about 300,000 additional free downloads of my books.
  •  My website went from 20 visitors A WEEK to over 500 A DAY, and we reached 500,000 page views in ten months.
  •  From April, when I created a Twitter account, until today, I gained 2100 followers
  •  From July, when I created my Lizzy Ford Books Facebook page, until today, I gained 1293 fans.
  •  I Appeared on close to 100 blogs/websites for guest blogs, interviews, or book features.

And these are just a few of the accomplishments, which just baffles me even more!  I’m proud of these accomplishments, more so because they occurred during a time of great personal struggle.

We built all this – hereby known as Lizzyland – in a year.  A YEAR!  And yes, I say ‘we’ because I never could’ve done any of this without the support of my husband, readers, fellow writers and fans.  You all made this possible with your support and encouragement, because I never would’ve found the courage to continue to write without you.

So, at the close of the year, I’d like to say THANK YOU, and get ready for an awesome 2012.  Tons of books, giveaways, and other events are coming, and I’m hammering out my Master Plan for 2012, the one that will enable us to take over the world.  🙂

2012 will be an awesome year – I feel it!

  1. I’m so happy for you, to be able to work through such major life changes & struggles and to come out having accomplished so very much. You’re a wonderfully original writer, Lizzy. Please continue. I know you’ve got a great career in writing. You have more than talent; you have the special spark of ideas, and the magic of a unique voice. Looking forward to what you’ll write next!

    • Thank you so much, Therese! 🙂 Don’t worry – I will keep writing no matter what. I really do appreciate your kind words – I’ve met so many incredible people this year through my writing. It’s truly inspirational. 🙂

    • No, YOU rock, Jenn! You’re one of my original fans!! 🙂 We’ll totally take 2012 by storm. Thanks so much for all your support!

  2. I’m glad you didn’t give up the fight. We never would’ve had such wonderful characters like Damian and Rhyn, or Sofia and Katie. Changes are always tough, but you have people around you that will stick by your side no matter what. That’s what is important! Your readers, or at least this one in particular, will follow your writing until whenever. 🙂 I’m glad I stumbled upon your books earlier this year. They have provided an amazing source of entertainment and I can’t wait for what’s next. Happy New Year Lizzy!! You’re awesome!!!! 😀

    • Thank you, Gabby. I’m glad you stumbled upon my books too – I enjoy talking to you on FB (though I will always feel bad for distracting you from your studies! LOL) And, a double thank you for all the hard work you’re doing on the Katie’s Hellion Spanish translation. 🙂 Fans like you make me want to write more, because you really do appreciate the funny little worlds I create. On days when it was hard to find my own source of motivation, I’d read feedback on my website and realize I had to pull my head out of the icky stuff and WRITE, because it makes me and everyone around me happy. 🙂

      • Glad to be of service, however small it may be. 🙂 Just promise me that Jared or Gabriel will take care of that pesky little issue that we talked about and I’ll live happily ever after!! haha! 😀 😀

It’s true that I love those funny little worlds you create. They take me away from the daily routine and prevent me from going bananas. 😀 And don’t worry about school though, I am an expert procrastinator… I work better under pressure.. lol 🙂

  3. Whenever there’s darkness, it’s always important to look and see what lies beyond the darkness… and I’m so glad that you can see all of the great things you’ve accomplished this year… you’re amazingly talented writer and an even more amazing person and I’m so glad I got to know you and be a part of Lizzyland. I can’t wait for 2012 and to see what all of the new things you have planned for us!! I’m ever so grateful to the oracle google for landing me upon your page one early morning many months ago when I was looking for something to read..

    • LOL and I’m glad Google led you to me! Thank you for continuing to support me. I still remember your feedback on Damian’s Oracle almost a year ago!

Tons of books planned for 2012. I’m so excited. The darkness can’t keep me down, as much as it may try. 🙂

  4. For human beings like you, Lizzy, life becomes more beautiful and easy and fun to be lead if they accept and cherish all its ugliness and bitterness. It takes the hand of those who reach out for it, despite the hurt in between, and makes them run along with it, thus conquering the threads of Time and this is exactly what life did for you; taking your hand through all its ugliness and bitterness and leaving behind, in the wakes of Reality, marks of your talent and good nature. So, i just have one thing to say to you Lizzy: never, EVER turn the hand life offers to you, never give up and never loose hope no matter how bleak the consequences may seem as there is always a tiny speck of life in it that is waiting to be lived upon, and it’s the only star we can shine through. And i wish you all the greatest of great lucks there are in the world that this year brings out the most for you and may you carry out all your plans just the way you want. And remember this Lizzy, when we are determined enough to do something and are resolute upon it, the whole universe conspires to help us accomplish it! And cheers to LizzyLand!:)

    • Thank you so much, Rayan. You’ve been an incredibe supporter the past few months, and I greatly appreciate your comments and feedback! 🙂 And you’re right – it’s what we find out about ourselves in the dark times that makes us who we are. I found inspiration in my writing and my readers, and that things really did fall into place once I determined what my path really was. Sometimes the hand whacks you back on course when you lost your way. Even though it can be painful, it turns out well in the end. 😀

      • I’m glad i could be of any help and if there’s anything else i can do, just let me know. Our lives start to end the day we stop caring for others, their needs and what they need aid in…anyways, about what said that coming out from the dark really shows us what we’ve got inside, i have a theory about it that when once we ARE in the dark, ignorance, evil, whatever it may be, the powers God has planted inside of us start taking shape, just like the antibodies are produced by our immune system once they encounter pathogenic microorganisms that have entered the body…so the powers inside us start taking shape and blend and mold themselves in what we call ‘strength’ and ‘talent’ and thus we come out from that darkness, ‘enlightened’….as for your finding inspiration in writing and your readers, good thing, in fact if we look around us more closely and observe everything more accurately, well find everything God has created inspiring, something to give us more purpose to think and wonder about it. And yes, i guess that ‘hand’ is our fate, cos it knows too well where we are destined to go, and so, it puts us on the right track once we stray from it. tc:)

    • Thank you, Julia. You’ve been an awesome friend (as well as an awesome writer!) I’m happy you reached out to me a few months ago – some paths are meant to cross. And yes, WE will take over the ebook world. Muwahahaha!

  6. Wow! And in talking to you through this blog or me bugging you about books or whatever, I would of NEVER even imagined that you were having problems! You are a strong person, a FABULOUS writer, and this is one of the only blogs I check (seriously, it’s you and Jenn – I might go to one you two recommend, but never check anything else regularly). If you ever need ANYTHING – you let me know, I will be happy to help any way I can!!

    • Ps – I ended up buying that Abigail book that was after Demon’s Desire, then her Temple book. I like them (not as much as your books) so thanks for the recommendation.

    • Thank you, Katie. You were my first rabid fan. 😀 You made me believe I could do this thing call writing, and I still remember you tracking me down on places like Goodreads. If there’s anything I can do for you, please let me know! (Sorry about recommending so many books. I know your TBR pile will probably take you a zillion years to get through at this point! LOL)

  7. Lizzy I can’t believe life was so rough last year. But talk about making lemonade when life threw you lemons!!! I truly believe everything in life happens for a reason, and I guess you had to go through all that to get on the path you were meant to be on…which is writing books! I have recommended your books to many friends and colleagues, and for every single one of them that took my advice, they are now new fans. Just yesterday I was speaking to my son’s pre-school teacher and she is a huge fan of yours also. I know this will be a great year for you.
Please also count me in as one of your earliest fans.. Soon you will have more fans then you can keep up with…but I will feel special to know that I was one of the first to discover such an amazing writer. I will keep marketing you to all my friends! My husband is a photographer with countless magazine covers in fitness and fashion…so if ever you are in need of specific picture I can twist his ear to help you in any way I can.
You can find his work at http://www.creativeedgephoto.com
    Keep up the amazing work!

    • Aw, thanks so much, Yaremis. That’s AWESOME about you spreading the word. You’re building the Lizzyland army! LOL!! I appreciate your support so much – I’ve met some incredible people during the journey, and yes – I am meant to be on this path. I fought it for YEARS and then the world basically felt like it ended. (Ok – dramatic flair there, but I am a writer – haha!) I remember the names of about twenty of my initial fans, and you’re among them. 😀 I’ll definitely keep your hubby in mind! Thanks so much for recommending him!!
